Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) established the Master of Science in Information Technology for Natural Resources Management (MSc in IT for NRM) program in 1998 in collaboration with SEAMEO Regional Centre for Tropical Biology (BIOTROP), one of 21 centres of excellence under the SEAMEO (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization). Based on the IPB Rector‘s Decree No. 037/K13/OT/2006, the MSc in IT for NRM program is under the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), in coordination with the Graduate School of IPB.
In the implementation of the MSc in IT for NRM program, IPB acts as implementers and providers of academic degree (degree-granting institution). On the other hand, SEAMEO BIOTROP provides full facilities - such as building, classroom and laboratory - for the implementation of the program. SEAMEO BIOTROP also offers wide network of international cooperation, especially with the countries of Southeast Asia under the auspices of SEAMEO, based in Bangkok.
The MSc in IT for NRM is designed as an international program specifically to recruit students from Indonesia and the Southeast Asian region.

Producing qualified graduates with high competency in the application of information technology for natural resource management
Conducting research to improve science and technologies in the field of information technology for natural resource management
Conducting training and providing consulting services and advocacy to public and private sectors, including the NGOs and commercial companies operating at local, national and regional levels
Preparing and improving the infrastructures and equipment needed for program operation
Establishing international and national networks for education, training, and research in the field of information technology for sustainable natural resource management
Continuous improvement in the implementation of quality management system
The aims of the MSc in IT for NRM are:
To produce graduates who have excelent capabilities both in terms of scientific comprehension and professional skills in the use of information technology for natural resources management;
- To produce graduates who are able to contribute ideas both nationally and internationally in solving problems of natural resources by using modeling and geoinformatic-based information technology;
- To collaborate in the national and international levels in education, research and training in the field of information technology applications for natural resources management.
